As with all forms of psychotherapy, dramatherapy has the potential to benefit anyone who is finding life difficult to manage or tolerate at a particular time. The reasons for clients choosing to attend sessions are wide and various and are always down to the individual and their circumstances.

Common reasons for referral to dramatherapy:

  • Anxiety

  • Feelings of depression

  • Low self esteem

  • Concerned about personal or professional relationships

  • A desire to find a more creative form of self expression

  • Processing of difficult or traumatic life experiences

  • Bereavement

  • Questions around identity, gender or sexuality

The creative nature of dramatherapy offers clients the opportunity to explore their life story from a different perspective. Potential clients should not be put off by the thought of having to work creatively though, it can sometimes be just as important to sit, talk and reflect. As the therapist, it’s my job to follow the needs of the client at all times. Talking can be a really important way to communicate and get to the bottom of a particular difficulty, however when we encounter blocks or feel stuck, sometimes the use of creative mediums such as drama, art and movement can support us to address difficult life experiences or emotions that maybe otherwise be overwhelming.
